Best Leave Them Ghosts Alone

An Old Gods of Appalachia RPG Adventure

Well hey there, family. Going to the funeral of a childhood friend’s never an easy thing, but when it’s the funeral of someone you saw die and then helped bring back to life years ago, well . . . you all have owes, and this one’s about to come due.

A horror adventure set in the small town of Dismal Pennsylvania in 1930 — a town full of memories, ghosts, and promises unpaid.

The Old Gods of Appalachia RPG is based a horror anthology podcast by the same name, and therefore, may contain material not suitable for all audiences, so Player discretion is strongly advised.

A 6-Hour Horror Story

Setting Details

Based on one of my favorite (and award-winning) horror anthology podcasts, the Old Gods of Appalachia Roleplaying Game is produced by the team at Monte Cook Games and powered by the Cypher System.

Per the Old Gods of Appalachia website, “Long before anyone lived in these hills, beings of immeasurable darkness and incomprehensible madness were entombed here. It was during this bygone age, when the Appalachians towered much higher and more menacing than the gentle slopes and ridges we know today, that they were conscripted after a great battle to serve as the final prison for those dark forces. But of course, time marches inexorably on. Eons passed and the walls of the prison begin to wear thin. And Things that slumbered soundlessly below for millennia began to stir and become restless.

They began to call to those who would hear them.

To dig. To seek and find. To follow and serve. To keep this dark and bloody land for themselves and their masters.”
